It is generally believed that when someone deletes a file, that file is lost forever. Most computer users think that if they delete a file, then empty the Recycle Bin, then that file is gone and no one will ever get to see it again. That belief is wrong – a deleted file is not really gone until it is overwritten. The operating system tells you it is no longer there, but in fact it is still there.

The fact that the file is not really gone is a good thing. It means that if you accidentally deleted a file, you can get it back. How do you do that? Why you do what I always do – turn to software and see if there is an application that can lend a helping hand.

If the deleted file you want to recover was on a NTFS-formatted drive, the application that can lend a helping hand is the SysDevSoftware-developed Raise Data Recovery for NTFS. If the file you want to recover is on a FAT-formatted drive (FAT-formatted removable storage devices or legacy hard disk partitions with FAT file system), the application that can lend a helping hand is Raise Data Recovery for FAT.

To start using the application you first need to get it off the web and onto your computer. You will be glad to know that the download weighs in at roughly 5.5MB, which means it will take but a moment for the download to complete. Once the download is complete, you will have to install the application. You will like that the installation process is simple and that Raise Data Recovery for FAT can be installed on just about any Windows version. Then, once the application is up and running, you will like that it is quite easy to use.

Pros

  • Easy to use
  • Recover lost or deleted files from FAT-formatted drives
  • perfectly suited for home data recovery from local FAT drives
  • Works with Windows 7

Cons

  • Free to try: the trial version will not recover files larger than 64KB
